Rave Like It's The 2020s

"For me, the best thing in rave culture is the freedom to be. "

The first raves in Finland was in the 1980s. After that, the scene has merged from underground culture to a space of sexual liberation, and from forest parties to mainstream festivals. In the 2020s Finland, the culture is living a new post-pandemic era and the young creators of the parties are reconnecting to the unique subcultures political roots.

The photography series introduces the faces behind the underground parties in Finland, and shows how the generation Z is building safer spaces and letting go the societal norms on the dance floor.

Rave Like It’s The 2020s is an ongoing photography project, and a documentary short film showcases three next generation rave collectives that bring a breath of fresh air to the bubbling underground scene in Finland in the 2020s. These young creators’ goal is to produce inspiring clubs and simultaneously build safer spaces for the rave scenes new golden age. Located around Finland, these individuals are united by a vibrant subculture but also a sense of community, passion for doing things together and ambition.

The project is produced by Vilma Rimpelä and Nikke Sillanpää from RARE Media. The film is funded by Patricia Seppälä Foundation.
